Welcome Andrea Bouman, MD, MBA to Emergency Medicine Team at UP Health System - Portage
October 23, 2019
UP Health System – Portage is pleased to welcome Andrea Bouman, MD, MBA, back to the Keweenaw to join it’s Emergency Medicine team.
Dr. Bouman earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from Michigan Technological University before receiving her Doctor of Medicine at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She then went on to complete her Emergency Medicine Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.
“Since I left the Copper Country for medical school and residency, my goal has been to return home to serve this community,” Dr. Bouman said. “My first exposure to medicine was at Portage Health through the CCISD’s Health Careers program, and later experiences and mentorship from local physicians set the foundation for me to pursue a career in medicine.”
Dr. Bouman lived her younger years in lower Michigan but spent a lot of time in the Keweenaw visiting family. She then attended Houghton High School and Michigan Technological University.
“I appreciate the slow way of life, the sense of community, and the kindness and familiarity of those who live here,” Dr. Bouman said. “My husband and I love outdoor activities and are excited to get back to U.P. skiing, biking, boating, and exploring. Having lived away for the last several years, we missed the snow!”
Dr. Bouman joins the UPHS – Portage Emergency Room (ER) team that is staffed 24/7 with emergency physicians, nurses, and staff who are trained in providing emergency care. Their team combines advanced training with compassionate service to be ready for you or your family when you need it the most. Since 2007, the UPHS – Portage Trauma Center has been verified as a Level 3 Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. UPHS – Portage also received Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology.
“It is an honor to be entrusted with the health and well-being of our community members,” Dr. Bouman said. “I strive to treat each patient with the compassion and respect I would want for my own family.”
For Dr. Bouman, returning to the U.P. will allow her to provide care to the community she once called home.
“I love the U.P. I am excited to be able to give back to the community that helped me develop into who I am today.”
Dr. Bouman will be practicing at UPHS – Portage Emergency Department, located at 500 Campus Dr in Hancock. To learn more about UPHS – Portage’s Emergency Department, go to PortageHealth.org/our-services/emergency-services.
