UP Health System - Portage announced that it has been awarded five stars in the latest round of Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). UPHS - Portage's Overall Hospital Quality 5-Star Rating puts it in the top 11% of all hospitals in the U.S. with respect to patient safety and the overall patient experience. Only 407 of the more than 3,500 hospitals rated received five stars.

UP Health System - Portage is pleased to welcome Keith Wright, DO, back to the Keweenaw to join it's Internal Medicine Clinic. Dr. Wright earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, then went on to complete his Family Practice Residency at Mercy General Health Partners. Dr. Wright is Board-certified in Family Practice.

UP Health System - Portage today announced that it has been named a LifePoint Health National Quality Leader, recognizing it's continued efforts in transforming its culture of safety and achieving high standards of quality care, performance improvement, and patient engagement. The designation replaces the hospital's former recognition as a Duke LifePoint Quality Affiliate.

Due to the high number of respiratory illnesses and influenza, UP Health System - Bell, Marquette, and Portage have implemented visitor restrictions. The visitor restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
In an effort to protect our patients, the following restrictions apply: Visitors who are ill with cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, vomiting and or diarrhea are not permitted. In the Family Birthing Center, visitors are limited to parents, labor coaches, and grandparents; and in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, visitors are limited to parents.

The American College of Cardiology has recognized UPHS - Portage for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain. UPHS - Portage was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation in October based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff's ability to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

Dr. Bouman earned her Doctor of Medicine at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, then went on to complete her Emergency Medicine Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.

This investment resulted from a collaborative effort between LifePoint Health and UP Health System – Portage. Executive leadership and administration worked closely with medical staff to identify potential advancements in medical technology.

UP Health System – Portage has been recognized by the March of Dimes for its work to give babies a healthier start in life. UP Health System – Portage earned the recognition after successfully reducing the number of elective inductions and cesarean deliveries performed before 39 completed weeks of pregnancy to less than one percent (1%). This is a tremendous accomplishment, and one that will give more babies the right start in life, the March of Dimes says.

UP Health System – Portage has announced that Ronald Ronquist, MD, has joined as its new orthopaedic surgeon. Dr. Ronquist completed his medical degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, MI.
