    Waiting Areas

Areas of Portage Health, such as shared diagnostics, emergency department and inpatient unit have separate, comfortable waiting areas with telephones nearby.

    Telephones in Patient Rooms

Pay telephones are located around the corner from the main lobby.

Each patient room (except Critical Care rooms) is equipped with a telephone. To make calls to numbers with the "483" prefix, simply dial the last four digits. To make a local call, dial "9" followed by the number. Long distance calls must be charged to a personal calling card. If necessary, the Portage switchboard can assist you in making collect long distance calls.

Telephone: (906) 483-1000 or dial 1000 from a hospital phone

    Cellular Phones

We ask that patients and visitors refrain from using cellular phones in certain areas of the hospital as they may interfere with patient care equipment. If you are unsure whether you can use your cell phone or not, ask a Portage Health employee.

    Automatic Teller Machine (ATM)

There is an ATM courtesy of the Michigan Tech Employee's Credit Union located in the main lobby.

    Television

Each patient's room at Portage is equipped with a television free of charge. In additional to local and cable broadcasting channels, Portage also provides DVD players.

  • Room Service Dining

Portage offers Room Service Dining, hotel-style room service. Patients and guests can order from a restaurant-style menu at anytime from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days a week. Guests who wish to dine with a patient in his or her room can pay with cash or check upon delivery.

For more information, please call the Nutrition Services department at (906) 483-1140.

  • Spiritual Services

    The Chapel

A small meditation chapel is located on the main level next to the gift shop. It is open at all times for private prayer and meditation for patients, their families, visitors and hospital staff.

    Portage Health Chaplains

Chaplains are available from several local denominational backgrounds who work cooperatively in providing pastoral care to patients and families.

A Portage Health chaplain visits patients in the hospital each day and is on call for emergencies any time of the day or night. You can request a visit by letting your nurse know.
