More About Me...
“I feel lucky to have become an occupational therapist, as it has given me an opportunity to work with people in need,” Susan said. “I genuinely care about them professionally and personally, and it is important to me that they feel that. When working with patients, it is important to try and go ‘above and beyond’ to help.”
Susan is an occupational therapist at Portage Health Rehabilitation. Susan became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2003, and certified in lymphedema management in 2005. Susan is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists.
She received her Bachelors of Science in occupational therapy in 1994 from Louisiana State University in New Orleans. She moved to the Keweenaw in 1995 and was the first occupational therapist to be hired at Portage Health.
Susan provides occupational services in home health, two-outpatient clinics, inpatient and nursing home settings. One particular area of specialty is fabricating custom braces and splints. She participates in monthly and annual continuing-education opportunities regarding conditions related to the upper extremities.
