Brian Brewster has served as a Certified Athletic Trainer at Portage Health since 2005, and Coordinator of Sports Medicine since 2007. He has worked with many aspects of Portage Health Sports Medicine Institute. He now works with Michigan Technological University's Men’s Ice Hockey Program, Finlandia University, and five high schools.
The Nebraska native earned a Bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2000. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in education from Hastings College while serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer from 2000-02 and Assistant Athletic Trainer. From 2002-2005, prior to Hastings College, he did an internship at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.
In 2007 Brewster volunteered at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. From then on he has been volunteering as Athletic Trainer with USA Hockey for the United States National Sled Hockey Team. The team won the World Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic in 2009, and a Paralympic Gold Medal in Vancouver, BC at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Games.
A member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Michigan Athletic Trainers’ Society and the College Athletic Trainers’ Society, Brewster is also an instructor for the American Heart Association and ESPHE department at Michigan Tech.
Brewster is an avid Golfer and runner. He and his wife, Katie Brewster, reside in Houghton, MI.
