HANCOCK – Dr. Carl Smoot was up to his usual antics Monday morning as he presented information to personnel from the Copper Country Intermediate School District.
“The information was heavily research based,” said Christine Salo, director of special education at the CCISD. “We heard several great comments about his sense of humor and the information he provided.”
Dr. Smoot is a board certified sleep medicine physician. He leads the Portage Health Sleep Disorders Center.
“That was a great audience,” Dr. Smoot said. “These professionals deal with the presented issues on a daily basis, and were very knowledgable.”
The group included staff from several of the local schools, as well as from the CCISD.
“We found his advice was applicable to the adults there as much as it was about the children we work with,” said Salo. “I think there will be more requests for his presentation.”
Dr. Smoot’s messages ranged from making sure to get enough hours of sleep, to how much of an effect poor sleep patterns can have.
“The most important thing, though, for a person at any age, is to wake up around the same time every day of the week,” he said.
Dr. Smoot performed a public presentation in November at the Portage Health Conference Center. Please contact the Portage Health Communications Department if you would like Dr. Smoot to present to your group.
