Portage Health is pleased to announce that Shawn Heiler, PA-C, has joined the medical staff to work in the emergency department and Express Care.

Heiler comes to the Copper Country after spending his entire professional career in metropolitan southeast Michigan.

His visit to Portage Health helped him to make his decision to make the trip north.

“Everything about Portage Health seems great,” said Heiler. “The emergency department has a lot to offer for being a rural hospital. It has all the things I need to make sure my patients are taken care of.”

Jim Bogan, president and CEO of Portage Health, said Heiler will be a great fit.

“We look forward to working with Shawn as a member of our emergency, trauma and urgent care team,” said Bogan.

Heiler has already begun working in the emergency department, and will also spend time at Express Care.

While Heiler adapts to his new professional surroundings, he’s already taken a liking to his physical surroundings.

“It’s beautiful up here,” he said. “It’s great for outdoors people like my wife and I.”

The Portage Health Sports Medicine Institute and Michigan Tech Athletics are proud to present Portage Health Family Day on Saturday, Sept. 24 as the football Huskies take on the University of Indianapolis. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Sherman Field in Houghton.

Portage Health will have a tent at the main entrance, where everyone will have a chance to enter a drawing for a team-autographed helmet or football. Winners will be announced at halftime.

Free MTU football posters will be available at the Portage Health tent during the fourth quarter and immediately following the game for the first 500 kids. They will be able to join the huskies on the field after the game for players to sign the posters.

Portage Health Family Day will be held in conjunction with Youth Jersey Day. All kids age 3 through 12th grade will receive free admission for wearing any sports jersey. The Blizzard Kids Race will also take place at halftime for children 10 and under, and is sponsored by Dairy Queen – participants will receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone.

HANCOCK – Portage Health is pleased to welcome Dr. Rebecca Baudoin to its women’s health team.

Dr. Baudoin attended the University of Minnesota for medical school and is heading to the Copper Country after finishing her residency at the same institution. She will join Dr. Julie Meyer in providing complete care for women of all ages.

“Dr. Baudoin’s arrival provides another choice for women seeking specialized services,” said Jim Bogan, CEO/president of Portage Health. “She complements our other providers very well, improving the quality of care available.”

“My goal is to provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care to women at all stages of life,” said Baudoin. “From adolescence through childbearing to menopause and beyond.”

Baudoin has a full array of services to offer such as minimally invasive surgical options, including several office-based procedures.

“Because interactions in OB/GYN are deeply personal, I place an emphasis on partnering with my patients to tailor specific care plans for individual needs,” Baudoin said.
