Bogan, Jim ImageBogan to oversee Portage Health, Bell Hospital and Marquette General Hospital

Marquette, Mich. (April 21, 2014) - LifePoint Hospitals® and Duke LifePoint Healthcare announced today that they have expanded their executive management team in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Jim Bogan, chief executive officer (CEO) of Portage Health, has been promoted to the new leadership role of Market President, effective May 11, 2014.

In this role, Bogan will be responsible for executive and operations management for LifePoint’s and Duke LifePoint’s hospitals in the Upper Peninsula. He will oversee Portage Health, Bell Hospital and Marquette General Hospital, with those facilities’ CEOs reporting directly to him.

“Jim’s expertise in hospital operations and administration has been an asset to positioning Portage Health for the future, and we are excited to broaden his responsibilities and leadership” said Jeff Seraphine, Eastern Group President for LifePoint Hospitals. “His nearly 40 years of experience and deep involvement in the region’s healthcare industry will not only benefit LifePoint’s and Duke LifePoint’s hospitals, but any healthcare provider throughout the region who is interested in building and advancing an integrated healthcare delivery system in the Upper Peninsula.”

A national search will soon be launched to find the strongest candidate to fill the top leadership position at Portage Health, where Bogan has served as CEO since 1989. He will continue to lead the hospital until the right candidate is identified to replace him.

Among his accomplishments at Portage Health, Bogan directed the construction and occupancy of a new $30 million healthcare facility, established an integrated medical group affiliated with the hospital, established a thriving volunteer program, and successfully led hospital operations for 24 years. Prior to leading Portage, Bogan served in numerous leadership positions at Trinity Medical Center in Minot, North Dakota, from 1974-1989. He earned his MBA from the University of North Dakota and his bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University. He also is a graduate of the Hospital Administration Program at Concordia College in Minnesota and is an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow.

Bogan’s active leadership in the Upper Peninsula healthcare community will serve as an asset in his new role as Market President. He currently serves as board chair for the Upper Peninsula Health Plan and the Upper Peninsula Health Group. He is past president and founding member of the Upper Peninsula Health Care Network and past president of the Upper Peninsula Hospital Council. Bogan also was a board member of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association, Northern Area Health Education Center and MHA Reinsurance & Casualty Company. He previously served as chairman of Copper Country Human Service Coordinating Body, chapter president of Healthcare Financial Management Association, board member of TeamCare HMO and board member of Medical Diagnostics Services.
