HANCOCK – The
Portage Health Dialysis Center has received a $400 grant for the purchase of additional wheelchairs.
The grant was awarded by the Portage Community Health Fund, which is managed by the
Keweenaw Community Foundation.
"Wheelchairs are essential to the services we provide," said Karen Kelley, director of dialysis. "This grant will help us add two new wheelchairs, aiding us as we provide our patients with the best care possible."
The wheelchairs are used to transport patients in, around and out of the dialysis unit.
"Having wheelchairs maintained in the department eases patient access," said Kelley. "Whether that means transportation upstairs, or even to the restroom during treatment."
