Stephanie Booth first to pass advanced hemodialysis tech test

Stephanie Booth, CCHT-A, recently passed her Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician-Advanced exam. She is the first and only person in Michigan to earn the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission’s (NNCC) certification.

Stephanie Booth“We’re extremely proud of the work that Stephanie has done in our dialysis center,” said Karen Kelley, dialysis director. “She’s taken on an active leadership role over the past year, and still found time to be the first in the state to earn this certification.”

To be eligible to earn the certification a technician is required to have five years of continuous technician employment, a minimum of 5,000 hours worked, 30 hours of relevant continuing education and have passed the certification exam. A directory of certified medical providers can be searched through here.

“The experience you have after five years on the job is tremendous,” said Booth, who has been working at the dialysis center since 2003. “Work in the dialysis center is very unique, and it takes a lot of time on the floor to perform comfortably on a daily basis. Most of the knowledge used to pass this exam came from my years of experience.”

All staff at the Portage Health Dialysis Center is required to be certified by the CCHT, but Booth is the only one, so far, to earn the Advanced certification. Learn more about the five-diamond rated dialysis center by visiting portagehealth.org/dialysis.
