DOLLAR BAY – Portage Health is helping to pink-out a couple upcoming high school basketball games between Lake Linden-Hubbell
and Dollar Bay
in an effort to raise awareness and funds for those battling cancer.
“The student athletes understand the purpose of such fundraisers, and it’s exciting for them,” said Jan Quarless, superintendent at Dollar Bay/Tamarack City Area Schools. “All of them get enjoy this event, and like supporting a great cause.”
The Copper Country Conference rivalry will be played out in two parts, first a boy’s game on Friday, Jan. 27 in Dollar Bay, and then a girl’s game on Thursday, Feb. 16 in Lake Linden.
Portage Health is providing custom-printed pink t-shirts to all participants, who will wear the shirts for warm ups. The shirts have numbers and names of all participants and will be entered into a silent auction, with all of the proceeds assisting those who are battling cancer in our community.
This is the second year Portage Health has teamed up with the two schools, which are situated just a few miles away from each other along Torch Lake.
“Last year was the first time we ever tried an event like this,” said Gary Guisfredi, athletic director at Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools. “We were very happy with the response from parents, students and fans, and we’re excited to see how well it works again this year.”
