    During the Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram (TEE), sound waves will be used to take a picture of your heart by using a probe swallowed while you are under sedation.

    Total time for this test is approximately three hours (imaging time is about 20 minutes).

    If you have any questions about the test you have been scheduled for, please call Portage Health’s Cardiopulmonary Department at (906) 483-1458 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Preparing for this procedure

    • No solid food, coffee, pop, tea, chocolate or milk products after midnight prior to your test.
    • No driving or signing of significant legal documents for 24 hours after the test due to sedation.
    • Bring someone with you to drive you home following the test.
