Meet our team
The responsibility of the anesthesia practitioner is to keep the patient safe and comfortable. Obviously, safety is our number one concern, and the monitoring of the patient’s vital functions under anesthesia is of paramount importance. Modern technology allows us to precisely assess the patient’s response to anesthesia and surgery.
We routinely measure heart and lung function, blood oxygen levels, blood pressure and body temperature to assure that the patient is tolerating the procedure well. Necessary adjustments are made to respond to any changes or abnormalities.
At Portage Health, anesthesia is administered by two different types of providers: anesthesiologists and certified nurse anesthetist.
seriously, and your safety and comfort are our highest priorities.
The anesthesiologist is a physician who has received specialized training in the care of the patient during the preoperative, surgical and post-operative periods.
The certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is a registered nurse who has completed several years of specialized training in the care of the patient undergoing anesthesia and surgery.
Depending upon the situation, your anesthetic will be administered by one or both of these providers.
Be assured that at Portage, all anesthesia providers possess a very high level of training, experience and skill. The Anesthesia Department takes its responsibilities very seriously, and your safety and comfort are our highest priorities.
