    Job Title: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Reports To: PORTAGE HEALTH FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS 

    SUMMARY

    The Executive Director is the chief operations and financial officer of the Portage Health Foundation (PHF). The Executive Director reports directly to the Executive Committee of the Foundation. The Executive Director is responsible for overall management and operation of the organization and must protect financial assets while ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements and laws. The Executive Director is responsible for fostering constructive and successful relationships with external constituencies. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Serves as chief operating and financial officer for the Foundation.
    • Builds community and educational partnerships through external fundraising and advancement.
    • Develops request for funding, reviews grant proposals for appropriateness, and makes recommendations to the Board.
    • Reviews all capital calls for funding of capital improvements/investments as identified in the joint operating agreement as established with Lifepoint. 
    • Protects financial assets and serves as the primary fiduciary agent for the Foundation.
    • Engages in fiscally sound practices on behalf of the Foundation to ensure it operates within budgetary constraints.
    • Allocates resources and has budgeting authority.
    • Ensures the maintenance and retention of all records. Oversees all financial and tax reporting.
    • Develops and implements active fundraising programs through individuals and corporations.
    • Identifies and oversees yearly fundraising events. Collaborates with any related committees.
    • Recruits, interviews, evaluates, hires or fires potential employees as designated by the Board.
    • Seeks and manages volunteers to assist with fundraising efforts including direct and indirect solicitation.
    • Collaborates with the Board to implement the mission and develop strategic goals and objectives. 
    • Works outside normal business hours to attend community functions as appropriate. 
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Executive Director supervises the Administrator and any other positions in the organization.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, management, healthcare administration or related field.
    • Five years management experience

    DESIRABLE:

    • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, MBA, or related field
    • Administrative experience in a non-profit foundation
    • CFRE, CFA, CPA, CMA or other relevant certifications

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    REQUIRED:

    • Excellent interpersonal oral/written communications skills
    • Proven leadership ability and collaborative management skills
    • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and the ability to manage budgets
    • A history of attracting resources through coordinated fundraising
    • Demonstrated success in building partnerships within the business community

    DESIRABLE:

    • Evidence of leadership in developing innovative and distinctive programs for increasing foundation assets
    • Experience in evaluating capital investment opportunities
    • Demonstrated ability to work with banking/investment companies
    • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain talented staff
    • Experience with selection and implementation of information systems for non-profit entities.
