    UP Health System - Portage sponsors several fitness events in the community. Sometimes choosing to participate in an event doubles as a healthy goal. Check back often to see what events are coming up next!


    Upcoming Fitness Events 

    Labor Day Bridge Walk – September 7, 2015 // 8:30 a.m. 

    Get up, get out and get walking on Monday, September 7 for the UP Health System - Portage Labor Day Bridge Walk. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the Kestner Waterfront Park (Chutes and Ladders) in Houghton, with the five-mile walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. MORE INFO 

    Turkey Trot – November 26, 2015 // 9 a.m. 

    Participants will meet at the front lobby of UP Health System - Portage in Hancock to register. Walkers and runners will head out on Portage Dr, then east onto Ingot to connect with the Hancock/Calumet trail. Participants will continue on the trail until Tomasi Rd where they will loop around to finish at the hospital.


    Current Fitness Classes 


    Indoor Cycling  

    • Monday and Friday 5:45-6:30 a.m.
    • Tuesday and Thursday 6-7 a.m.
    • Tuesday and Thursday 6:15-7 p.m. 
    • Wednesday 6:50-7:35 a.m.

    This class is an amazing cardio challenge made up of varying speeds and resistance levels, hill climbs, flat runs and more. Music will keep you on the proper pace while keeping you motivated. Let the instructor guide you through a ride that you can tailor to fit your own personal fitness level and goals. This class is great for beginner to advanced participants.

    TRX Blast  

    • Monday and Wednesday 4:30–5:15 p.m.

    This class combines TRX Suspension exercises with various resistance equipment into a functional and powerful circuit training class. This circuit format is perfect for those on the fast track to reaching their fitness goals and busting through a workout plateau.

    Core Crunch  

    • Monday and Friday 10-10:45 a.m.

    An excellent full body, functional fitness workout focused on strengthening the abdominals and toning the core.


    • Tuesday and Thursday 5:15-6 p.m.

    Get RIPPED with a strength class that will challenge your body in a new and exciting way! Gain strength, tone up, and burn calories by flipping tires, battling rope, pumping iron and using various equipment to maximize your results.


    • Wednesday 6-6:45 a.m.
    • Monday 6:15-7 p.m.

    High Intensity Interval Training. Vigorous exercise mixed with low-to-moderate recovery time for an effective way to push your fitness to the next level.

    FUNctional Fitness  

    • Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:15-9 a.m.

    Enjoy fitness and friends for this fun, social interactive class designed to maintain and improve a daily active lifestyle. Designed for all activity levels. Beginners are encouraged to attend.

    Core Cycle  

    • Tuesday and Thursday 7:30-8:30 a.m.

    45 minutes of cycling combines with a great core workout.


    • Tuesday and Thursday 4:20-5:10 p.m.

    Fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy -to-follow moves to create a one-of-a kind fitness program that will keep you coming back for more! Interval training routines are used to burn fat and blast calories! Join the party. No dance experience required!

    Foam Roll Release   

    • Monday 6:35-7:20 a.m.
    • Wednesday 9:05-9:55 a.m.

    Foam rollers can help improve core stability, strength, balance and flexibility. Take the time to release tight muscles, fascial adhesions and improve blood flow during this class.

    Core Mix  

    • Wednesday 10-10:45 a.m.

    This class uses a variety of equipment and exercises, including Pilates, to strengthen and tone the abdominals and core.


    • Monday and Wednesday 5:30-6:15 p.m.

    For those receiving or having completed cancer treatment, this class is designed to build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase endurance, flexibility and stamina, and improve functional ability.

    Hard Core  

    • Wednesday 6:15-7 p.m.

    Hard Core is 45 minutes of intense core work. You'll work your entire core and sculpt your body using a variety of equipment.

    Pure Strength  

    • Friday 6:35-7:20 a.m.

    This class is designed to build strength, add definition and decrease body fat by increasing lean muscle. A variety of equipment will be used to focus solely on strength for the whole body.

    Fitness Classes 16-session punchcard: $72 (non-members); $48 (members)
    Indoor Cycling 16-session punchcard: $88 (non-members; $56 (members)

Classes can be booked on your mobile device (iPhone, Android) by downloading the Free MemberMe app. Add Portage Health Fitness Center as your “Home Club”. Classes can be booked if you have a valid class punch card, which can be purchased at the Fitness Center.
