Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Portage Health has implemented an electronic medical record (EMR) system. This implementation occurred in a phased manner over several months, one clinic at a time, beginning in October 2010 and ending in March 2011.
Implementation was a large task, but the ultimate result has improved the quality of your care. While we have fully implemented the system, we are still tweaking the system and providing ongoing training for our staff. We ask that you please bear with us as we continue to evolve with this powerful new technology.
What is an EMR?
An EMR is a secure record of your health information. The system allows our medical and support staff to manage your appointments, billing information and health history all in one place.
How does this affect my care?
Having all of your health information readily available during the office visit means faster access to more complete information. Instead of the traditional method of obtaining your paper medical records, having the medical records department locate your file and deliver to your provider’s office, the provider will be able to tap on a laptop in the exam room and bring up your health history right there in the room with you. The EMRs will include test results, wellness information and e-faxed documents from providers outside Portage Health.
